Prerequisite: Basic Tracking, Mammals Signs, or Instructor permission. Short review of basics followed by advanced gaits and trail interpretation. Covers plate tracking, databases, discriminant analysis, and differentiating among close species i.e. dogs and wolves.

Forensic Analysis of Quadruped and Biped Footprints: Bigfoot to cougars, wolves, and grizzlies

Learn the techniques used to find and document rare species. Topics covered include: Cryptozoology and the public, defining and locating rare species, trace and physical evidence, footprints and gaits, recognizing what is important, collecting quality evidence, photography and casting evidence, analysis of evidence, presentation of analyses, case studies and peer review.

The two-day workshop with pre- and post-events will be taught at the Track Education Center in Gardiner, MT. The Track Education Center is located at the north gate into Yellowstone National Park and it houses the largest forensic tracking collection in the world.

Wolverine, lynx, fisher, marten, cougars, wolves, and even bears are difficult to locate, but the winter blanket of snow "ups" your odds of finding them and learning their secrets. Designed for winter enthusiasts from amateur naturalists to wildlife managers to those who just want to know, this course combines basic-level tracking with professional-level skills and includes certification.

Lecture and field content includes snow tracking basics, and tracking databases (criteria for identification and measuring, footprints and trails, size and sex determination, and discriminant analysis), gait patterns and stories, preserving tracks (plaster casting, photography, interpretation), species track accounts, and ecology
